EPD arrests Palavi Vainuku on the outstanding warrant for four cases

Today at 1:18 a.m. Eureka Police Officer Ben Altic arrested and booked Palavi Junior Vainuku on the bench warrant issued for two of his 2022 cases and two 2023 cases. I am not listing charges because I have covered the cases and his Humboldt Superior Court record in previous coverage. Vainuku had 15 cases in the local court sysyem last time I checkef. Had he shown up for court in May, he could have settled his four open court cases.

Usually, I don't list the arresting officer but in this case in addition to giving EPD the credit deserved for arresting repeat criminals with bench warrants, there is a tale of two Humboldt generational families. The hardworking Altics who have served EPD for two generations and any job they have because their dad, Louis Altic is a decent father and husband who didn't just raise them with good values taught them the value of hard work. The Altic kids who I have known since childhood are now grown men and women contributing to the community in many positive ways.

On the other hand we have Palavi, someone with all the privileges and "Humboldt connections" and yet another example that criminals include the "well to do" and "Humboldt rich." You just don't read about their arrests and convictions except on this blog. I don't selectively report.  Alleged charges, convictions and repeat offenders impact the safety and resources of others in the community.  I really don't care what your "Humboldt status" is; whether you are Kailan Meserve, Palavi Vainuku or many of the others who need to look at their actions and the consequences they brought on themselves.

12/11: All four cases continued to 1/30/24.

1/30/24: All four cases continued to 4/9.

4/9: All cases were on for pre trial. On 4/13, EPD arrested Vainuku on a bench warrant. Arraignment on warrant scheduled for 4/15 was continued to 4/16.

4/16: Arraignment on warrant on all 4 cases continued by defense to 4/19.
