Man who lit another on fire held to answer on attempted murder, torture,mayhem and great bodily injury charges

 


Attempted murder, mayhem and torture suspect Vaughn Pernell Jones was held to answer on all charges in his 2023 case after his preliminary hearing on October 17. Arraignment on information is scheduled on 11/1. His 2022 case is trailing the latest case.

Jones was charged with PC 205 aggravated mayhem, PC 206, PC 664/187 (a) attempted murder and special allegation PC 12022.7 (a) great bodily injury enhancement.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada is Jones' attorney.


11/1: DA added charges for arraignment on information. Trial confirmation is 12/4; jury trial 12/11.





12/4: Defense made an oral motion to continue at trial confirmation today, hearing continued to 12/6.

12/6: Trial confirmation and motion to continue was continued to 12/7. Marsden motion was requested by Jones and added to the 12/7 hearing. Jones' attorney, Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada is ill  and ruling was deferred to 12/7.

12/7: Marsden motion denied by Judge Steven Steward, transcript of proceeding sealed, motion to continue granted. Trial confirmation on 1/4/24; jury trial on 1/16/24.
