I did not know at the time of that post. It was a gut feeling; a hunch. Today, media received this message from Samantha Karges. I have known Samantha since she was a reporter, then HCSO PIO. I expressed how I felt about her leaving in the post about Brittany leaving.
"I’m reaching out to let you know that today is my last day at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. I have accepted a position as the Emergency Services Coordinator for Humboldt & Del Norte counties with Cal OES beginning next week."
With EPD, we have Katie Hill and Assitant Chief Brian Stephens in the interim and while they are not Brittany, the process of getting prompt responses has continued. Sheriff William Honsal needs to fill this position in the interim with someone we can rely to be just as professional and prompt as Samantha who took the PIO position to another level. Sheriff Honsal needs to pick someone who is experienced, personable and efficient. My suggestion is Morgan who is underutilized at dispatch or a retired annuitant like former Lt. Mike Fridley who has the mature, professional, calm demeanor and respect from the media and community.
