"Jasen believed the entire world was bad except his family, he talked about his girlfriend being sex trafficked and that someone was going to eat his body"

As you read this detailed post and the testimony by four witnesses, look at these photos.  They show  you happier times and how within months, two families are now marred by tragedy.

As it is so often with court cases in Humboldt, the darkness and evil that lurks, deceives, destroys lives is not obvious through testimony and evidence. The darkness is what creates the convicted defendant and the loss of an innocent life and is exposed into the light daily on this blog.

Former HCSO and now DA Investigator Braden Brawner  was the first witness for the People. On July 3, 2023, he was assigned to a homicide investigation and responded to 2225 Silverbrook Court in Mckinleyville.

"When I arrived, there were numerous law enforcement on scene," said Investigator Brawner. The crime scene was secured. "I  saw a body covered in blanket in front of  2225 Silverbrook Court. The deceased's identity was established through family members" as Kenneth "Michael" Davis. An autopsy was done on July 5, 2023.

Investigator Brawner was provided the Jasen Coley's as the name of the suspect. "Mr. Coley was interviewed a few days later after he was apprehended. I was present with HCSO Investigator Jennifer Taylor."

"In that interview Mr. Coley made statements about Michael's death," said Investigator Brawner. "Mr. Coley stated he had murdered his friend."

Investigator Brawner spoke with Christian Coley, Jasen's brother, on July 3, 2023. "Christian said his family and the Davis family were close friends. The children had grown up together. Prior to this two years ago, Jasen Coley began developing obsessions about Michael and the Davis family; that they were going to come after him and his money."

"Christian Coley observed jealousy from Jasen Coley towards Michael. He related Jasen struggled in life, had trouble in school, trouble holding a job whereas he had the perception that Michael was a successful guy and had a good marriage."

Investigator Brawner spoke with a neighbor, Nicole Hogue. She "was inside in her kitchen, heard a loud bang, saw someone running in the yard with a stick.  She thought someone busted a window. She took photos of the vehicle driving away. Then heard someone was shot. She was trained in first aid and went to see if she could render aid but realized it was too late."

Mr. Michael Robinson asked Investigator Brawner that jealousy was not a word said by Christian Coley. Investigator Brawner said the interview was audio recorded. He admitted that jealousy was his perception and that Christian Coley never used that word.

Investigator Brawner responded "yes" to Mr. Robinson stating that Christian Coley said Jasen Coley was deteriorating and detaching from reality.

"Jasen believed the Davis' were perfect and part of an underground society and were going to take everything away from Coley's family."

Christian Coley told Investigator Brawner that Jasen had been diagnosed with OCD and bipolar disorder. Mr. Robinsin cited specific lines from Investigator Brawner's report when Brawner seemed to not remember and after reviewing those lines, agreed and said yes.

Investigator Brawner testified that Jasen had been prevuously married and his marriage had broken up. He moved to Tennessee which Christian Coley described as impulsive and not planned. Jasen had a mental crisis in Tennessee. Jasen would "travel back and forth between Tennessee and Humboldt."

"Christian had no expectation that Jasen was traveling from Tennessee to Mckinleyville on July 3, 2023?" was a question asked by Mr. Robinson.

"Yes," responded Investigator Brawner.

"It was a surprise. He, Christian,  didn't know Jasen was coming to kill Michael. Christian and Jasen had some communication when  Jasen was in Tennessee. Christian described Jasen's thinking as bizarre and unstable towards Michael."

These were specific lines Mr. Robinson cited from Investigator Brawner's report. Once again, Investigator Brawner could not deny the statements he wrote.

"There is no question Jasen Coley killed Michael Davis?" asked Mr. Robinson.

Investigator Brawner repeated that exact statement back but stated it as an answer and fact.

Christian Coley provided texts between him and Jasen to Investigator Brawner.

"Jasen believed the Davis' were flesh eaters who were going to eat his family," Mr. Robinson asked Investigator Brawner.

Investigator Brawner, again hesitant to respond was confronted yet again with Mr. Robinson reading the actual texts.

"RJ eats humans and so does my girlfriend" is one text from Jasen Coley.

"That is not true," responded Christian Coley.

"Yes, we are all going to be harvested by them," Jasen Coley texted.

Other texts from Jasen Coley mentioned harvesting and human trafficking.

Investigator Brawner looked sheepish as the court took a lunch break. This is what happens because Deputy District Attorney Candace Myers and the DA's office chose not to waive preliminary hearing. The defense had offered to waive the preliminary hearing and agreed to everything that would have held Jasen Coley to answer. The preliminary hearing ended up working for the defense because every single People's witness helped provide a court transcript and testimony about Jasen Coley's mental health. This is what makes families mad at the DA's office because they hype up and can't deliver in homicide cases where the community is torn apart.

After lunch, Investigator Brawner's cross examination continued. In response to a question by Mr. Robinson about Jasen Coley's interview, he said that HCSO Jennifer Taylor asked the majority of questions and he asked some clarifying questions.

Mr. Robinson asked if Jasen Coley said why he killed Michael Davis.

Investigator Brawner said, "He offered some information."

Mr. Robinson : "You look puzzled when I asked why he did this?"

Investigator Brawner: "To some degree, yes."

Mr. Robinson: "Is it because the explaination offered by Mr. Coley didn't make sense."

Investigator Brawner: "We are still processing why Mr. Coley felt the need to murder Mr. Davis. Mr. Coley expressed statements that I as a law enforcement officer feel his mental health should be examined."

"This isn't a case of whodunit but why," said Mr. Robinson. He repeated this twice during the preliminary hearing.

Investigator Brawner told Ms. Myers in redirect, "To my knowledge RJ and Jasen Coley's girlfriend are not members of the Davis family. My understanding is RJ is a friend of Jasen Coley."

Colleen Smith was the second People's witness. Before she even sat down to testify, she started sobbing. She cried throughout her testimony after which she would say she was sorry.

Smith was picking up a couch from Michael and Jordyn Davis advertised on Facebook Marketplace. She arrived at 2205 Silverbrook Court "around 5:15; 5:20." Smith was parked near the house and drew where on People's Exhibit 1.

"Within a few minutes from my arrival, I saw everything happen," said Smith. "A dark, grey BMV pulled into the driveway, a blond man exited. He looked so happy to be home. He began to walk to the house but he didn't make it before the other man approached him."

"As the blond man was walking towards the front door, the other man ran up to him, stomping. The blond man turned around, the other man had a large black gun. "

Smith could not hear Jasen Coley but she could hear Michael Davis. "The blond man said something like Hey man what are you doing?"

"The blond man was repeatedly asking questions and the other man was walking towards him and the blond man was walking backwards."

Smith heard Michael say, "Don't do this and then I heard a clicking sound. The other man had his arm raised the entire time at the blond man and then I heard a loud bang."

"I observed a wound to the blond man's face and observed him fall and the other man ran away." Smith said Jasen had the firearm as he was fleeing.

The third People's witness was Jordyn Davis, Michael's wife. They had been in a relationship for 10 years, married for 2 years.

Jordyn knew Jasen as one of Michael's friends and had known Jasen for 10 years.

"Michael typically came home between 5:20 and 5:30 from work," said Jordyn. She was home. "I heard Michael's car which has a distinct sound when the door is locked and I was tracking his location." She was tracking him because Smith was coming to pick up the couch.

Jordyn saw Michael outside the front door through the living room window. She saw him turn around abruptly and speaking to someone. "I heard Michael say something like Dude stop, what are you doing? I saw the barrel of a rifle pointed at Michael."

Jordyn ducked behind the sofa. She never saw the person's face. She heard Michael say Jasen's name. "A second later, I heard the gun go off. I went and locked the front door, went to the bathroom and called 911."

Later that evening, Jordyn provided ring camera recording to law enforcement.

A month prior to July 3, 2023 Jasen was at their house. "We just talked about our lives." They were not expecting to see Jasen that day.

"For 9 years, there was no friction between Michael and Jasen. In the last year, there were periods of time, Jasen would go without talking to Michael.

When cross examined by Mr. Robinson, Jordyn said she was aware Jasen had mental health issues and had been hospitalized in January 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee. "I knew this in person and via texts."

In the last two months, Jordyn said there was one intetaction with Jasen at church, one at their house. "Jasen was quiet. He is normally a bubbly, joyful person."

Michael and Jordyn Davis thought Jasen was in Nashville, Tennessee. They did not expect to see Jasen on July 3, 2023. They knew "Jasen was struggling with mental health issues. Michael was trying to help Jasen. Jasen was struggling financially and having trouble finding work."

"During periods when Jasen did not talk to Michael, he thought Michael was the enemy."

HCSO Investigator Taylor was the fourth and last witness for the People. She was the lead investigator on the Coley case.

When HCSO Investigator Taylor arrived on the scene, deputies told her about the ring camera footage. She spoke to Jordyn Davis and gained access to the surveillance.

The ring camera footage showed "a man walking up and hear someone say Mike. You see another individual approaching the man with what appears to be a shotgun," HCSO Investigator Taylor testified. "You hear Michael say Jasen what are you doing? Is this for real?"

"Jasen says you fucked me over. The weapon is fired. Michael goes down. There is a lot of blood coming from his face."

"After speaking with multiple people", HCSO Investigator spoke with Jordyn, asked who Jasen could be. HCSO Investigator Taylor showed Jasen's mother, Amber Coley, part of the video "and she identified her son."

HCSO Investigator spoke with Amber Coley and Jasen's girlfriend Valeria. DA Investigator Brawner interviewed Christian Coley.

"Jasen's girlfriend was not aware of what Jasen was doing and not aware he was traveling to Humboldt County. He never showed up to pick her up from Mississippi."

Jasen's family was not aware he was in Humboldt on July 3. A neighbor of Michael and Jordyn, Nicole Hogue, gave description of the vehicle and photos. HCSO Investigator Taylor showed the photos to Amber Coley and Valeria. The girlfriend identified it as her vehicle. HCSO received a tip about a guy in College Cove, Trinidad. HCSO deputies went there and arrested Jasen who had the shotgun in his possession.

During cross examination by Mr. Robinson, Investigator Taylor testified that Jordyn heard Jasen tell Michael, " You are coming after my family. You are doing something wrong."

Jordyn told HCSO Investigator Taylor that "Jasen believed Michael was evil and going to take over Jasen's family." Law enforcement found no evidence of what Jasen believed.

In response to Mr. Robinson's questions, HCSO Investigator Taylor confirmed that Amber Coley was cooperative about the investigation, Jasen was hospitalized in Vanderbilt, Tennessee and that Jasen ran away from his family. The Coley family thought Jasen was going to jump off a bridge.

"Jasen believed the entire world was bad except his family, he talked about his girlfriend being sex trafficked and that someone was going to eat his body."

HCSO Investigator Taylor said that "Amber Coley's statements indicated her son had some mental health issues."

HCSO Investigator Taylor confirmed DA Investigator Brawner's testimony about Jasen making the statement that he had murdered his best friend.

Taylor said Coley made many statements in his interview. "What we are living in is not real. Cars are not real. It's crazy but we are living in a simulation."

Jasen had fear of his family being killed. He believed the Davis family were aliens; not humans.  "Jasen believed  we are living in an alien planet." About the Davis family, Jasen said, "Whoever these people are; they are popping out of the ground."

"Jasen said it was going down one way or the other. He talked about cars driving out of the house and talked about Michael being killed."

Jasen Coley asked HCSO investigator Jennifer Taylor and Brawner if "we thought he was insane." Investigator Taylor told him "that was for the doctors to decide."

Ms. Myers introduced two exhibits into evidence. One was a photo of 2225 Silverbrook Road and the other was the death certificate of Kenneth "Michael" Davis. He preferred to be called Michael and that is what attorneys and witnesses called him today and I have in my post.

Earlier today, I did a post on the preliminary hearing for which has the ruling, the arraignment date, charges and more information. On Monday, I did a post on the pre trial and entry of a dual plea. If you are not a daily or regular reader of my blog, please read previous coverage.

This case and tragedy could have been avoided. All those people who are against forcing people with mental health issues to take medications need to get off their high horse. Jasen Coley stopped taking his meds. Mix that with religious, interoable zealots who do nothing to help people struggling financially or otherwise and offer prayers in rote. Most don't even pray for anyone except their selfish needs. Society fails people; religion even more because all they care about his wealth and power. True faith has nothing to do with the grifters who get rich off exploiting people. Throw in the Humboldt culture of being high and making excuses for drugs, nepotism and callousness, Humboldt is hell.

To those who are mad at me for calling them out in this post and those who I regularly report about on this blog with facts and court records; you can retaliate against me for speaking the truth, for doing what I do despite your evil attacks. That will not change the facts or the ugly reality that is the Humboldt cabal. To the Humboldt Pharisees, do you really believe and if so, in what?

When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them
