Yesterday, I did a post on murder suspect Jasen Coley's pre-trial. I noted that no one was there from Coley's family. I made an observation to the the Victim Witness Advocate in court who told me she could not comment. If you read my blog, it is obvious why I did not ask Deputy District Attorney Candace Myers. Considering that Ms. Myers did not waive preliminary hearing for Jasen Coley and said it was in accordance with the Kenneth Davis' family and their wishes; they should have been there so Judge Kaleb Cockrum could have made a more informed decision.
I received an email today from Kenneth "Michael" Davis' family and I am reprinting it with names not included for the family's privacy.
Hello,
I have done this blog for 10 years. I have been there and informed and helped many families, usually victims but sometimes defendant families too. This isn't the first time the DA's office or Victim Witness Advocate hasn't kept the family informed. From the Marci Kitchen case to several other cases, I help people every day. The DA's office gets paid to keep the family and victims informed and be there for them; I don't. After this post, the DA's office better not tell the Davis family not to contact me or speak with me. Unlike the DA's office, I actually met and spoke with Jasen Coley and know many who support him. This has been done before with other families; all because they reached out to someone who they trust and who actually helps them.
DA Stacey Eads can get pissy all she wants or she can find out who screwed up and fix it. She also needs to be grateful for the four experienced prosecutors getting her wins and the office staff that does an excellent job. I have covered many exhausting sexual abuse and offense cases and my past coverage was very truthful and favorable to Ms. Eads as a prosecutor and while she ran for DA. But I am not giving her a pass for what has happened in the last few months because on not getting back to people, certain media if it is inconvenient and ignoring what needs to be fixed on a management level. Maggie was professional and Maggie was on the floor accessible. And knew how to take and handle criticism. You want to be DA, then politics, public and media feedback and criticism is part of the job.
No one cares about KINS appearances or random court "articles" and PR fluff DA spin in certain media that dont do regular court coverage. It is petty and unprofessional to respond to certain media who don't even cover court just because your husband's law firm advertises with them and ignore media that people follow and read first and foremost for court coverage.
After 10 years, people trust one source and regularly communicate with me. I can do my job covering court on my own and don't need to fawn over anyone. Ms. Eads can follow the Maggie Fleming way or the Rex Bohn and Michelle Bushnell way.
I do this blog despite a lack of financial support and adequate compensation. When you take on the good ole boy network including casinos, government, politicians, law enforcement, businesses, lawyers in a small rural county, especially Humboldt where longtime locals are allergic to the truth, their misdeeds and abuse of power, they do retaliate and there are consequences. I do the blog for the many decent people in Humboldt, especially my loyal readers, advertisers and supporters. I reach a lot of people and am effective for businesses, readers and this community. The good ole boys can sulk all they want but they know I am effective. Their defiance and hubris is amusing to watch.
