More delays, more continuances by defense in Joshua Cooley case

The next hearing for sexually violent predator Joshua Cooley was scheduled in June 11. That and deadlines to file for that hearing are most likely to change due to defense motions and requests.

Today, there was a hearing calendared by the defense on motion to release records. Another date has been scheduled for production of records. I will add that update to this post. It is going to be a change of dates. Unless there is something significant and the motion is heard, I will add updates to this post.

As previously covered, Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell refuses to turn over the entirety of records to Assistant Deputy Stacey Eads so there was no stipulation to chain of custody.

Ms. O'Connell only wants to turn over what she intends to use. Today, Judge John Feeney released documents from Liberty Healthcare and Coalinga State Hospital to defense. They will be copied and returned to the Court.

Ms. O'Connell is expecting another packet of records. She has put in a funding order for a defense expert to visit Coalinga State Hospital to review records and already indicated she cannot meet the May 29 deadline for the June hearing.

5/4: There were technical issues all morning with all courtrooms and no livestream. Next court date is 7/23.
