"What you just watched was is the murder of Johnny Renfro"

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer started her opening statement with a video from 8/29/2019 taken from a camera located at 81 Monument Road.

You see a blue car across the street, a man exit, a car drive by, the man fall to the ground.

"What you just watched was is the murder of Johnny Renfro" in cold blood and in broad daylight said Ms. Schaffer.

She mentioned the blue Jeep Liberty, Renfro getting out of the car, changing clothes, the green Honda driving by Renfro, driving by again, Renfro gets sho  and collapses by trash cans.

Residents called 911.First responders got there quickly but Renfro was dead.

"During this trial you will hear from a variety of witnesses. Prior to the shooting, the defendant was in Eureka. The defendant followed Johnny Renfro from Eureka to Rio Dell."

"Mariah Acosta was in the car with the defendant's girlfriend and heard the shots." Ms. Schaffer mentioned Regina Osenbaugh as another witness.

She said there will be witnesses from the marijuana industry; "from the black market industry" that made "conflicting statements."

While acknowledging that she was speculating, she said these inconsistencies could be out of fear of cooperating with law enforcement.

She mentioned that there are eye witnesses,cell phone data and records.
