The Hill, NPR, Newsweek, CNN, New York Times and others have reported and some have linked the audio call of Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) criticizing President Donald Trump which was obtained by the Washington Examiner. Fox News, ABC, CBS News and NBC news have not covered this, so far.
In the call, Senator Sasse responds to a constituent about why he has criticized President Trump. Sasse's spokesperson has made comments about the call and has not denied that it occurred. One excerpt is listed below.
"The United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership, the way he treats women, spends like a drunken sailor. The ways I criticize President Obama for that kind of spending; I've criticized President Trump for as well," Sasse said. "He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors. His family has treated the presidency like a business opportunity. He's flirted with white supremacists."
