"We are getting crickets from Mr. Acosta"

Trial assignment for convicted human trafficker David Anderson was scheduled this morning. JIt is unlikely that the jury trial for October 26 will proceed, however that decision was put over to this afternoon because Anderson's attorney, Mr. Michael Acosta was signed into Zoom but did not unmute his video or audio.

Judge Kaleb Cockrum called the case twice, called out Mr. Acosta's name, sent a text to all Zoom receipients to get Mr. Acosta's attention.

"We are getting crickets from Mr. Acosta," said Judge Cockrum. He diplomatically added that Mr. Acosta maybe having technical difficulties.

While the technical difficulties have been an issue, this is not the first time Mr. Acosta has been a no show, late or not responded in court while being signed on Zoom. He could have called or emailed if he was having technical difficulties.

Lack of courtrooms and courtroom staff due to the issues created by the COVID 19 closures and ongoing impact are resulting in time waived and out of custody cases being rescheduled.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is the prosecutor for the case. The case will be called after OR/bail hearings this afternoon. Judge Cockrum is also disqualified from the case as he previously represented Anderson.
