From the time, Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman was assigned the Rory Kalin case, I predicted the outcome. I was hoping to be wrong. I had discussed this possibility on more than one occasion with lawyers from LA and local lawyers. I could see from Judge Moorman's rulings where this was heading. At first, it seemed she had an open mind. Then, slowly I saw a pattern. I used to think Judge Moorman was a law and order judge but I am disappointed that when it came to holding one of her own accountable; she failed miserably.

I know that the lawyer who defended Judge Moorman to me agrees with me about Kreis so let's see what our next conversation will entail.

First, Judge Moorman let convicted upskirter and former court mediator Joe Hale get off with a slap on the wrist. Now, she grants the motion for summary judgement against the County of Humboldt, Public Defender Luke Brownfield and former Public Defender Marek Reavis. I don't think the settlement between Kreis and Rory Kalin should surprise anyone either, assuming we get the details of the entire settlement.

Isn't it convenient that after being called out several times for years for the lack of coverage of this lawsuit, Lost Coast Outpost conveniently writes about the Kalin vs Kreis, Luke Brownfield, Marek Reavis motion for summary judgement today. It looks like a scanned copy was emailed to them. Mendocino Judge Moorman order was entered into e court on 12/19/23. I am sure North Coast Journal's Thad will now finally write about it as well. His PD buddies probably sent him a copy.

I could already tell from the last court minutes what Judge Moorman's ruling would be. I check the case regularly; this order just happened to be entered at a time I was not still at the courthouse. I do have a copy of the order from e court and I am not going to add all 25 pages but you can see the difference between scanned copy to LOCO and the order in e court.

I have covered this lawsuit regularly for years and most of what is in Mendocino Judge Moorman's ruling on the motion for summary judgement is the same court documents I have already included in previous coverage. I have reached out to Kalin's lawyer. The CMC scheduled today was continued to 2/2/24. Court minutes aren't up yet from today's hearing.

If you have regularly read my coverage on the blog, even the last post, I knew that Kreis et al would get away with it. Kalin was never going to prove all his claims but when you have a judge from a neighboring county who socializes with Kreis, California agencies and judges who don't always hold their peers accountable, a judge who has rich parents and influential buddies, what do you expect? At this point, I don't expect much from the Commission on Judicial Performance. The institutions have failed the people. For now, you can still vote and that maybe the only recourse left for holding unfettered power accountable.

One lawyer told me, "I bet you that part of the settlement with Kalin will be that he not testify against Kreis for the CJP."
