To protect the identity of the source which is just an email address, I had to crop the heading in the first screenshot. Since Judge Gregory Kreis opted to leave me out of his press list for the campaign announcement, I am not wasting time contacting him. He is free to email me if he wants.
This email was sent to Ms. April Van Dyke, Judge Gregory Kreis' opponent, the Times-Standard, Kym Kemp's RHBB and the Mad River Union.
This was my initial response to the email.
Yes, the alleged battery happened in an incident you partially describe general incident above. Those details from the lawsuit, court records are available online which the readers should check for complete and accurate information.
The case is not covered by homeowner's or auto insurance. The alleged battery did not happen while the judge was at work. No insurance company covers an alleged battery on public property. I litigated insurance cases for decades. Do your research and you will find what I say is true.
Tipster, I spend hours researching and have not been adequately compensated for the time I put in this blog for 10 years. It is not my job to provide documentation for your claims.
You should have provided it with your anonymous email which is not selfless. You are an insider with something to gain by this information and you didnt use your name so you don't face any legal or financial consequences. I do not like Judge Kreis but this is dirty anonymous tactics that I call others out for and you are no different. This is not how Ms. Van Dyke is running her campaign. You have done a disservice to include her in this email. People like you like to use my blog when convenient and your interest is not for the community. I have suffered financially for following through on tips by people like you. Appreciation does not pay my bills nor cover my expenses for this blog.
Next time include a check for the time I need to spend researching and verifying your claims. I protect my readers and tipsters and I did not publish your email address for that reason. Not because you deserve that courtesy. The email handle gives me a pretty good idea of who you might be.
Judge Kreis hired his long time friend Patrik Griego (Eureka based) to defend him.
If you read my blog or even one of my recent posts, this is something I have mentioned several times.
No insurance company would hire an attorney with a preexisting relationship with a client (concerns of objectivity create risk). Doing so would be a breach of fiduciary duty to shareholders. An insurance company would have hired a Bay area or LA lawyer with no former contacts to Judge Kreis. (In the case Patrik Griego filed against the County regarding David Marcus you will find a declaration from Judge Kreis when he was still an attorney. This proves they had a preexisting relationship.)
I reported extensively on David Marcus years ago and the Griego connection, including mentioning it recently. Why didnt you come forward earlier?
Judge Kreis is paying the monetary settlement out of his pocket on the eve of his election announcement. If in an alternate reality an insurance company was involved (which it was not) they certainly would not have taken an interest in helping Judge Kreis get reelected. Insurance companies operate on the bottom line. The timing of the settlement is further proof Judge Kreis is paying this settlement out of pocket.
Judge Kreis' parents have money. He has people and connections with money. If he is paying this out of pocket, as you claim, where is any proof? How would one verify this because the settlement isnt finalized? Once it is, there could be terms that are confidential. If you have proof, email me. I want to look at it for my own verification and to judge your credibility. How would you know this? Based on what you said, I am not questioning your expertise but you know way too many specifics and the responsible thing would have been to provide some documentation.
If he lied about insurance paying the settlement he can't be trusted on the merits of the case, or anything else.
I dont know anything about the settlement yet from official sources but based on 10 years experience of covering Humboldt Superior Court, court records, being in the courtroom myself, watching Kreis, knowing a lot more than what I have posted on the blog, I have made it more than clear what I think of Gregory Kreis.
Here is the Judge's quote:
“It’s been a long road,” Kreis said. “[Kalin] made false allegations against me as far as the anti-Semitic stuff. So I think the insurance companies decided it will be done, and they offered him — I don’t know what what the final settlement was. … And in the future, here, I will be releasing all the witness statements that say [the alleged events] never happened.”
If Kreis can release witness statements as he claims, then Kalin should be allowed to do the same. I have pointed out all the conflicts with so called Kreis' witnesses numerous times in my coverage of this lawsuit and otherwise over the years. Patrik Griego is one of many.
