Felony hit and run suspect enters conditional plea for probation

Remember hit and run suspect Jose Guzman Jimenez?  I have been following his case since his arrest. EPD responded to a report of a pedestrian in the roadwalk at 5th and K. No vehicle was at the scene. Evidence and video led to Jimenez being identified as the man who fled the scene.

Setting of preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 13. Instead, there is a change of plea scheduled on December 11 which is a "special set" with Retired Judge John Feeney. There was an intervention hearing on 12/5 which resulted in a conditional plea only if Guzman gets probation.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for this case. Mr. Benjamin Okin is Jimenez's attorney.

12/11: Sentencing on 1/9/24.

1/9/24: Jimenez was sentenced to 180 days in jail with credit for 4 days. Counts 2, 3, 4 dismissed by Retired Judge John Feeney. Commit to jail date is 2/10/24.

2/17/24: Did not see Jimenez on the booking log for his commit to jail date. Jail staff said last time he was in the system was 2023. Nothing filed in e court, checked 2/16/24. Checked HCSO warrant list last updated 2/14/24 which is cumbersome to search through. Did not see his name.
