No jury trial for Ray Christie, no jail time, no probation and several counts dismissed

I knew from the moment Judge Gregory Kreis took over the Ray Christie case that there would be no trial. The chances of a plea were apparent but the deal Christie got could have been slightly different with a different judge.

Intervention hearings are in a closed courtroom. This was scheduled as an intervention. Instead, Christie got to plead and get sentenced without any media present or the public because we had no notice. The 12/15 date has been vacated. 43 counts and this plea deal is justice?

Have no idea why Retired Judge Wilson's name is also on the court minutes but if Judge Wilson was involved in the intervention, I doubt his opinion on the evidence changed since he presided over the first trial. He is retired. The Presiding Judge is Kreis. Judge Wilson is not going to go out on a limb for one case. I knew that the 12/1 intervention would result in a plea. There will be no jury trial. I knew it for months because Humboldt Superior Court is predictable.

The negotiated plea shows several counts dismissed by the DA, no jail time, no probation and court fines that are a joke given Christie's means. Defendants who are indigent pay the same fines. Christie waived his apellate rights.

Christie can have three LA lawyers appear for a non consequential hearing, he was out of custody with a business that did not stop and I have checked his property records more than once. He gets away with $12,000 to one organization for the protection of animals?

I have written about why there would be a plea several times. If you followed this case regularly, this case was botched from the beginning by law enforcement. Further botched by Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada who was a former Deputy DA on Christie's first trial and a plea deal negotiated inevitable to protect HCSO and the DA's office. Kreis should have recused himself because of his friendship with Kamada, Kreis' lawyer, Mr. Patrik Griego knowing Christie's lawyer and a Visiting Judge should have been assigned this case. Kreis hasn't, not even in the case involving former Deputy Counsel Cathie Childs.

The only silver lining to this plea deal is Christie not clogging up court resources and a courtroom.

Christie picked up a new case for speeding and driving without a license in September 2023. He paid the fines.

12/8/23: Defense filed a notice of compliance with the 12/1/23 court order. Christie paid $12,000 in lieu of fine to Redwood Pals rescue located in Mckinleyville. Defense notified Deputy DA Roger Rees and there was no objection.

12/9: I havent seen Ray Christie in months. I was walking in Old Town and heard someone call my name. It was Ray. I briefly spoke with him. He looks healthy and the same as I saw him months ago. He asked me why I wasn't at the Dec 1 hearing and I explained what I wrote above. According to Ray, he was not there either. I take what Ray tells me with a grain of salt. According to him, Judge Kreis said he was not as familiar with the case and Judge Wilson was called for the sentence. Hard to verify since the plea and sentence was done at an intervention in a closed courtroom, last minute and a change of plea was scheduled for 12/15. Court minutes have no record of such remarks.

**I am not linking all the previous posts I did on Christie because there are too many for this 2018 case. Just the last post on October 27 has links to several posts**
