On December 8, there is a hearing on motion hearing summary judgement in the lawsuit filed by former Deputy Public Defender Rory Kalin against Humboldt Judge Gregory Kreis, Public Defender Luke Brownfield and former Public Defender Marek Reavis.
Anti-semitic statements are one of the many allegations in Kalin's lawsuit and the focus and headlines, so far, have been on what Kreis said.
Since my last post, several documents were filed on 11/13 and 11/27. I doubt Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman will rule on December 8. Probably do a written ruling on some, maybe a ruling on others. The attorneys will regurgitate the same arguments so I will save you and me time and give you a sneak preview of some excerpts and some complete documents. There were so many documents that some are just cover pages of what was filed. This is how the pages are scanned in e court. The paper file is impossible to get. I have provided you 40 pages and I am not labeling them individually.
I have already said what I think of this tug of war between the two attorneys and the people on both sides. Usually previous paperwork by Kalin's attorneys, these depositions and paperwork just dont have the gotcha factor. I didn't expect County employees, Kreis' fellow judges or his buddies like Brownfield and others who all have some other reason to give anything that would help Kalin. Self help attorney Tanya Ellis' deposition is one of the ones I am waiting for but will it be as disappointing as some of those included in this post? Relevant questions need to be asked. I had reportedly previously that Commisioner Greenleaf maybe retiring and that Ellis was interested in that position. When she first started as a self help attorney at the Humboldt Superior Court and many of the services are for family law. Ellis was having a hard time fitting in and breaking into the iron clad local insider clique. Things certainly have changed for Ellis in the last few years. Until recently, Judge Kreis was hearing family law cases. Now he is in juvenile court since he was getting disqualified so much but hears some criminal cases. I have looked at and verified information which is relevant to the many conflicts of Kreis, especially Tanya Ellis. I will not post those documents because they contain personal information and I have to consider other innocent and uninvolved parties like their ex spouses and children.
Why is Tanya Ellis' home address the same as Kreis' address on his divorce documents and campaign filing? Tanya Ellis is Kreis' treasurer on his 410 form. Both filed for divorce within months. I have the dates of the filings. I cannot post the unredacted filings but I can post this redacted document which is on the election website and public record.
What is the relationship between Kreis and Ellis? Are they dating? Are they are living together? Did they go to Europe? Are they engaged?
I never posted Tanya Ellis' name before while giving clues but given at least three different official documents and several people naming her and seeing them out in public, what do you think reader?
Shouldn't a candidate for the highest position in local courts in a small entrenched county with a lot of influence be subject to the same standards other politicians are, especially one who thinks nothing of partying and cavorting with public defenders and others who work with him and is defiant that he is never wrong and should never recuse himself? Every relationship Kreis has at work that has crossed the appropriate line and is a conflict of interest should be examined and questioned. Just look at the photo that made national headlines with Kreis on a boat with people who appear before him in court.
Read the judicial code of ethics. The other local media do nothing as usual. You as a voter are on your own, as usual. Ignore the anons and online distractions. You have proved those who vote are savvy enough to research and read and search public records yourself.
Kreis was not elected the last time; he was appointed. As a Democrat. Ask him about what his current registration is for this election.
Reavis retired but if you google my coverage on him before he left, it was the typical Humboldt exit when issues were raised and one leaves and the matter is closed. Taxpayers are footing the legal expenses for yet another poor choice by the County and courts. Some of the views expressed in these excerpts are despicable. Read for yourself what Reavis thinks about Jews, Hindus, Muslims and believers.
Was Reavis blogging at work? Reavis certainly isn't the only attorney in Humboldt who is either an atheist, has strong opinions on race and religion or anti lgbtq. I know through a personal conversation when he was an attorney that Kreis is atheist and that was confirmed by others. If you were shocked by EPD texts published by certain officers (which were taken out of context by the Sac Bee) you'd be surprised by the views attorneys, law enforcement, government employees, politicians and the good ole boys have.
When the whole former Public Defender David Marcus debacle happened, the people most against him include Mr. Patrik Griego, Judge Kreis' lawyer and several of the deputy public defenders who are Kreis' "buddies"; named in this lawsuit. Three years into my blog at that time, I gave Mr. Griego and his buddies the benefit of the doubt. I was aware of some connections but after 10 years of in depth coverage of the local courts; the stench that permeates the second floor has become unbearable and it takes time to build a pattern of evidence.
At the time this whole brouhaha was going on and before Luke Brownfield was appointed PD, I still was speaking with Rex Bohn. I conveyed concerns but Rex brushed them away. Word is that Connie Stewart who was friends with Rex's wife was influential in Kreis getting appointed.
Whoever that anon is on Robing Room thinking Kreis is conservative has no clue about anything because just that fact alone was pulled out of thin air. There are only a couple conservative or moderate judges and while there are some conservative attorneys in Humboldt Superior Court, none of them goes around disclosing their political views. I happen to know who they are from being involved in this community for 20 years personal knowledge and knowing them before I started this blog. The only thing Kreis and his cohorts are is an embarassment to the legal profession.
