I first saw this guy reeking of booze in the in the room where the public computers are located. He was ranting and arguing with the court clerk. In addition to his anger issues, cluelessness about the law, he was a nuisance and it was hard to focus and check on cases with a lunatic screaming. This kind of verbal abuse happens all the time to court staff and on the second floor.
After I covered the Rory Kalin v Gregory Elvine-Kreis, Luke Brownfield, Marek Reavis hearing in Courtroom 4, I was headed to Courtroom 3. The jerk was still there and made a beeline to Luke who was on his way to some courtroom but the selfish jerk didn't care.
The guy told Luke he had been represented by former Public Defender Rory Kalin. "I am glad you guys fired him. He went to my Rabbi and said he was going to sue you guys. I am willing to be a witness for you guys."
Rory has been gone for years. I doubt most defendants remember him because he was in Humboldt for a short time. There are always going to be disgruntled clients who instead of accepting responsibility and knowing the law rant about an attorney or Judge.
The Kalin vs Elvine-Kreis et al lawsuit has enough issues. Hearsay from a belligerent drunk does not make for a credible witness.
Courtroom 3 is where Elvine-Kreis was sulking in chambers because a few attorneys could not magically appear in multiple courtrooms at the same time.
Unlike Elvine-Kreis who barely works to earn his $260,000 salary while embarassing Humboldt County as the current Presiding Judge, these attorneys are working and attending court the best they can under the chaotic mess created by former Humboldt Presiding Judge Joyce Hinrichs and then Assistant Presiding Judge Elvine-Kreis.
