No other media was in court for HCSO Lt. Sam Williams's preliminary hearing which was continued from yesterday to this morning. We saw video taken by Lt. Williams as he pulls up outside his house, he walks into the bedroom confronts Brian Kelsey, Jr, we see Kelsey leaving and Lt. Williams asking "Tyler" and "Riley" to call 911.
The alleged victim who was the only witness. Some of the exclusive details I mentioned in previous coverage were confirmed in court today. My past coverage also mentions Kelsey's criminal record.
According to sources in the know, the footage was reviewed by the HCSO brass who concluded no crime was done. As I mentioned in previous coverage, Lt. Williams walked into his house to find his wife in bed with her lover. Accordingbto sources, Kelsey had a gun for which he has a CCW but since he "was butt naked, he could not grab it." Lt. Williams was pointing a gun at Kelsey when he entered the bedroom and until Kelsey left the house. This entire exchange is on video filmed by Lt. Williams. There is another video not shown today, referred to but no details given. Kelsey confirmed in his testimony today that he had a gun which was with his clothes, keys and wallet in the living room on a table.
Danielle Williams was here with her lover Brian Kelsey. They both met and work at Sempervirens. The Williams are not divorced. There is only one filing back in 2007 and a summary saying dismissal due to lack of prosecution. Danielle Williams allegedly told her lover they are "legally separated That is what Kelsey testified to in court." Sam Williams lawyer, Deputy Public Defender David Celli referred to this as "a messy divorce that did not happen" today which court records support.
Lt. Williams was held to answer on both charges PC 422 criminal threats and PC 417 brandishing a firearm. Defense 17 (b) motion denied without prejudice by Judge Lawrence Killoran.
Arraignment on December 14. Deputy District Attorney Emily Norgaard did not ask that Lt. Williams be remanded. He posted bail and is out of custody.
Ms. Norgaard did an excellent job of questioning Kelsey and her presentation of the evidence was very focused. Mr. Celli's cross examination of Kelsey was good and raised issues that could make a difference in a jury trial or a possible plea. Defense chose at the last minute not to call HCSO Undersheriff J.D. Braud. Letters of support from the community were given to Judge Killoran who read them and gave them back to defense. Pastor Andy Broese Van Groenou was in court with Lt. Sam Williams.
If you think this is the only case where hanky panky has gone on between law enforcement, first responders, people involved in the court system sleeping with others; you would me mistaken. It is the same in political and business circles.
Some "dating" I have seen with my own eyes but consenting adults can do what they want and a relationship alone is not news. Some law enforcement and others at the courthouse, some married, have slept around with co-workers, other people's wives and girlfriends. "Firearms and finding another man in bed and threats have been allegedly made in at least one other situation where the two men were both first responders and at least one allegedly had gun. But only one person mentioned that to me and no one else had heard about it so did it happen? I finally got confirmation from other sources and the details match my orginal source. All the sources said that one of the parties was EPD Assistant Chief Brian Stephens (soon to be EPD Police Chief) and "years ago he cheated on his wife with a dispatcher who was married to a fireman and that set back the relationship between the two departments for years."
Hearsay doesn't make the blog and neither do alleged encounters which didn't result in a a complaint, arrest or court case. Lt. Williams filmed the interaction and he called 911. According to court testimony and an email in evidence, he knew about Kelsey. Both men seem to give Danielle Williams a pass when she is the one who created this situation.
What an ironic court case where the People have to advocate for an admitted philanderer and defense for law enforcement.
Sam and Danielle Williams family law case:
Retired Judge Christopher Wilson recused himself. People filed a disqualification against Judge Kelly Neel. That is the reason the preliminary hearing was continued for a day.
Charges for jury trial:
12/14: Trial confirmation on 1/23/24; jury trial on 2/5/24.
