Owners of Royal Inn get permits after City of Eureka issued stop work orders

In September 2021, the Royal Inn was shut down by the City of Eureka. In the last few months, there has been a lot of cleaning and looks like work is being done at the location.

I have heard from a couple different sources who are interested in this location to use it for low income housing or housing for Cal Poly Humboldt students and travel nurses. The owner has been offered a fair market price.

Eureka City Manager Miles Slattery told me the City of Eureka  had to issue stop work orders in the past and the owners were fined.  I have submitted a PRA request to the City of Eureka for more and specific information.

Mr. Slattery told me that the owners of the Royal Inn recently put in for permits which will allow them to do demo work but they shouldn't be any construction work.

The City of Eureka is keeping an eye on the property.
