No electronic filing of external documents for court right now but if you need a restraining order, here is the process

The Humboldt Superior Court administrative staff and IT department did an impressive job of making adjustments and taking precautions to sanitze and protect the public before any guidelines and the shelter in place order. And they continue to do so with rapidly changing rules and deadlines.

Nothing is business as usual these days. The livestream has allowed court to conduct some business and the public has access to these hearings. The online calendars are still available for the public.

I wanted to get information about filing of documents and how filings for restraining orders were being handled. I had some idea from other emergency situations but wanted to make sure of the rules right now due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Humboldt Superior Court Court Executive Officer and
Jury Commissioner Kim Bartleson responded with the following:

"The court is not electronically filing external documents.   External electronic filing is part of our ongoing new case management system project.  At this point, we are on hold until the pandemic issues decline."

"If a person wants a restraining order they prepare the papers, file them in the drop box by the Clerk’s office and they are processed.  Self-help is responding to emails. court.selfhelp@humboldtcourt.ca.gov.  If a person sends an email in, self-help will call them back.  We are in the process of getting access to the online workshops set-up."
