"If he is being combative, don't bring him down, if he is just saying no, he needs to be here"

Shantaram Jones refused to come to court,again. This was the third time he was scheduled for arraignment.

"He said no," Correctional deputy B. Mendes informed Judge Christopher Wilson.

"He needs to come down," said Judge Wilson.




Judge Wilson said the bailiff informed him that Jones was being combative. Deputy Mendes said that Jones was not being combative with staff but "he is not being super compliant. He is not following procedures."

"I want him to be here," said Judge Wilson. "I know he doesn't want to be here but I win that battle."

"If he is being combative, don't bring him down, if he is just saying no, he needs to be here," said Judge Wilson.

After several minutes, Jones came in escorted by two deputies. Judge Wildon started to fill him in about yesterday and Jones started cussing at Judge Wilson, "I say fuck you. (inaudible) I say (inaudible) fucking bitch."

At this point, court staff or the bailiff put Jones on mute but he could still hear thebproceedings.

Deputy Conflict Counsel R.J. Leohner completed arraignment. He said time was not waived and asked Jones be referred for a supervised release report snd asked OR/bail be set.

Instead of Mr. Leohner, it was Judge Wilson who said, "I will not express doubt today but his behavior in court gives rise to doubt. His attorney can explore that."

Not guilty plea was entered. Regarding supervised release, Judge Wilson remarked that he hopes Jones would cooperate with probation.

"Thank you for bringing Mr. Jones down," Mr. Leohner said to the deputies. "Mr. Jones will come speak to you. Also probation will come see you. Do not speak to anyone about your case."

"Thank you sir," said Jones.

OR/bail is on April 16. The preliminary hearing is on April 23.
