Catherine Fode's sentencing continued by defense because she may testify at Cesar Valenzuela's trial

Catherine Fode, the first defendant to plead guilty in the Manila 5 case, was scheduled to be sentenced April 1.  Defense filed a motion to continue sentencing. The People did not object. Motion was granted by Judge Christopher Wilson.

Setting for sentencing was continued to June 30. Fode entered a time waiver for sentencing today.

I spoke with Tyson Claros' family and they were informed that sentencing would be rescheduled.

On March 4, Judge Christopher Wilson denied releasing Fode from custody before sentencing.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for this case. Ms. Candace Myers appeared today on behalf of the People. Mr. Neal Sanders is Fode's attorney.

Mr. Sanders said that "Fode may testify" at co-defendant Cesar Valenzuela's jury trial, currently scheduled for June 8 and therefore requested a setting date in late June.
