(the 290 registrant is the guy on the right)
The 290 registrant is on Megan's Law and his being a convicted pedophile is common knowledge to the people hanging out with him as well as public information.
(two in the left in this photo are related, others I am not sure but the guy is constantly this close with others including the 290 registrant )
The guy on the left doesn't seem to care that his young children run around within reach of the 290 registrant. He hangs out with the 290 registrant.
As I write this post, the 290 registrant and the guy in the second photo have a bunch of street folks huddled around and blocking the entrance to the building so they can get high. Besides being loud, hearing some of them hack for the last month does make me anxious. The addicts near 5th and N are screaming and having a party.
Despite being extremely busy, Sheriff William Honsal and EPD Chief Steve Watson are the only two leaders showing calm and they answer every email and call. They are the only two that have responded to my concerns.
Others are already making excuses for violations of the shelter in place order.
I know I am not the only one frustrated with certain issues in Eureka that impact our finances, health, peace of mind. These threats to our safety and peace of mind existed before the coronavirus and the shelter in place order. Now excuses are being made for not doing anything due to COVID 19. If you are experiencing similar issues, document and speak up.
That alley and such behavior waste so many EPD resources on a daily basis.
The Eureka City Council and Mayor don't care that a woman was assaulted in that alley and died in November. That alley is near the area where an assault occurred this Saturday. The Eureka City Council does not care that addicts shoot up, piss, trash that alley and all over Eureka. They didn't before COVID 19, why should anything change?
The post I did on Eric Jackson and the house next door to him raises similar concerns. When violations are occuring constantly where you live, near where you live, it is difficult. This is in addition to all the anxieties and hardships of COVID 19.
I held off doing this post and addressed this privately. But nothing has been done by the City of Eureka Code Enforcement staff or anyone I contacted. The 290 registrant, addicts and others blatantly ignore the shelter in place order putting your and my health at risk. This is happening a couple blocks from Eureka City Hall.
Most of these people do not have jobs and live on taxpayer dime. The guy in the second photo works but is home a lot lately.
The photos I took include people I have repeatedly spoken to about the shelter in place order and they were all aware it is in place . There is no change in their behavior. Standing around smoking all day is not essential. Going out with and without your dog every 10 minutes is not essential. Going out every 10 minutes, every day somewhere is not essential when you don't work. Slipping into the alley for five minutes all night long with transients is not essential.
I could be out every day and I can to cover news. I am not. I am staying home, planning my trips and going out when and only if neccessary. I know you are following the rules.
Those of us following the rules of the shelter in place order have had our lives and businesses affected yet we understand; we care about our community. There is intense focus on businesses while the violations by residents are being ignored.
You saw the post I did about City of Eureka Code Enforcement getting authority to educate and enforce violations at the special meeting. That had not been made official but do nothing Brian Gerving was already making excuses for his do nothing staff about this being a big city. Now that power hungry department has been given more authority to harass businesses but they ignore violations of this shelter in place order by residents. Code enforcement in Eureka is a joke.
I have been observing and making some repeated calls in the last week to the COVID tip line of violations of the shelter in place order in the area where I live and frequent. I reached out via email to County Supervisors, Sheriff Honsal, Chief Watson, DHHS director Connie Beck. Chief Watson told me code enforcement would be handling such calls but he cautioned me that calls are prioritized.
I even informed the property management company of the apartment complex but they said they cannot enforce the order.
While that is true, there are tons of properties and slumlords in this town perfectly happy to take that government check every month and create nuisance properties and ignore issues because of those subsidized checks.
Now, they, do nothing Gerving and his staff and the spineless local and state elected officials use COVID 19 as an excuse for inaction. We are being forced to stay home, pay rent despite not being able to work while they collect their paychecks which are paid by taxpayers and ignore the risk to our health and safety.
Should you and I get sick because of their negligence?
This is just one example of the shelter in place order not being followed. While most people are being responsible, selfish people don't give a damn. How many of these examples are out there in the community? It's not the businesses that need to be monitored, it is self centered idiots like the ones above and the ones who traveled out of the county knowing there was a pandemic.
The shelter in place order can be place for months but if you don't monitor blatant violations, it will not be effective.
Dont have a tip line if you are not going to follow up and hold violators accountable. Don't tell me to stay home for an undetermined amount of time costing me income and increasing my expenses when you are not holding those accountable who are endangering this community by their irresponsibility and selfishness.
Better move out of Eureka proper. I think you can find a better place in the County somewhere, but maybe not as close to the courthouse. Your current resident seems full of low lifes, felons, and addicts. Your landlord does not seem to care. You cannot control their actions, only yours. Vote with your feet and move.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, I will move but it is not as simple as just pick up and move. These issues are not just limited to Eureka anymore. My moving will not address that this affects many others. This is a Countywide issue and housing issues in California needs to be addressed permanently. I do appreciate your advice and caring enough to comment. I would prefer a private landlord when I move. There are decent landlords locally but those apartments stay occupied for a reason.
