Domestic violence suspect Shelton Dewayne Cry flees from EPD unsuccessfully

On September 26, 2019 at about 2:30 pm, Officers of the Eureka Police Department responded to a reported domestic violence incident that had just occurred.

As a result of the investigation, probable cause was developed for the arrest of Shelton Dewayne Cry (31 years old of Eureka). Information was obtained that Cry was possibly in possession of a firearm and that he may be at a residence at the 700 block of W. Harris Street in Eureka. Officers responded to that location in an attempt to take Cry into custody.

Upon arrival, officers located Cry in the front yard of the location. When officers attempted to contact Cry, he tried to flee.  A struggle ensued and while officers attempted to pull Cry’s hand out from his waist area, it was discovered that Cry had a firearm concealed in the front waistband of his pants.  Officers were eventually able to place Cry in handcuffs without further incident.  He was taken into custody for domestic battery, carrying a concealed firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Cry was not injured during the altercation, but two officers sustained minor injuries that did not require treatment.

Cry was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and is being held on $50,000.00 bail.

This is an ongoing investigation and further details will be released if appropriate.
