From HCSO to College of the Redwoods, Fred Flores continues to serve the community
College of the Redwoods has hired Mr. Frederick Flores as the Temporary Chief of Police effective September 1, 2019. Mr. Flores will lead the new Police Department at CR while the District conducts a national search to fill the position permanently.
President Keith Flamer states that the goal of hiring a campus Chief of Police is to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the campus.
The Board of Trustees supports this new hire enthusiastically. As Board of Trustees President Bruce Emad says, “The Board is very pleased to see the CR police department become a reality. This is the culmination of many years of hard work by the College of the Redwoods President and his staff and we will now be able to fulfill our moral obligation to our students, faculty and staff to provide as safe and as welcoming an educational environment as possible.”
Mr. Flores’ background includes 34 years as a California Sworn Peace Officer, 33 years in Incident Management Team deployments, CAL FIRE Deputy Chief of Operations/Peace Officer for the Humboldt-Del Norte Unit, and he is a Certified Educational Instructor and Large Exercise Scenario Coordinator for CAL FIRE, FEMA and USFS.
“I am excited to join the College of the Redwoods family to develop the CR Police Department as the Temporary Chief of Police,” said Mr. Flores. “Our goal is to provide excellent customer service to all students, faculty and staff to ensure their safety and security. We want to implement a student-first approach to a healthy law enforcement experience.”
