More details on attempted murder suspect Jalissa Montanez including almost striking a deputy
After my initial post, I contacted HCSO and got the following details from Scott Aponte.
"On Thursday, September 26, deputies were dispatched to the Herrick Ave. Park and Ride in Eureka when passersby reported a possible robbery and kidnapping in progress. Callers reported a female had jumped out of a vehicle and screamed she was being robbed.
A deputy located a male in the area who identified himself as the boyfriend of the female subject. The male reported he had gotten into an argument at the Park and Ride with the female after he suspected she had stolen items from him. The female drove off from the scene.
A deputy contacted the female, identified as 21 year-old Jalissa Seven Montanez of Fremont, Calif., via telephone to determine if she was safe. While speaking with Montanez, deputies observed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed heading directly for their patrol vehicle. The vehicle narrowly missed striking a deputy and the patrol vehicle when the driver made no attempt to change direction. The deputy was able to get out of the way before being struck by the vehicle.
Deputies chased after the vehicle, which stopped on the 500 block of Herrick Ave. After a short struggle, deputies arrested the driver, who was identified as Montanez. Upon further investigation, it was determined the vehicle had been reported stolen to the University of California Berkeley Police Department on September 25.
Montanez was arrested on suspicion of the following crimes:
PC 664/187 - Attempted Murder
PC 245(a)(1) - Assault with a Deadly Weapon
PC 148(a)(1) - Resisting Arrest
PC 496d(a) - Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
VC 2800.1 - Evading a Peace Officer
VC 23152(a) - Driving Under the Influence
VC 14601.1(a) - Driving on a Suspended Driver License
VC 23123(a) - Talking on a Cell Phone While Driving
Neither Montanez, nor responding deputies were injured during the incident."
