City of Eureka Planner Kristen retired but tipster incorrect about her abruptly leaving?

 

I just received a tip that City of Eureka Planner Kristen Goetz "abruptly retired after a 20 plus year career and I guess she gave 1 week notice." My source is sticking by their claim even after the City of Eureka's response.

I have contacted Eureka City Manager Miles Slattery and Assistant City Manager and City Clerk Pam Powell. Ms. Powell responded, "Kristen Goetz retired from service to the City of Eureka on Monday, May 8th.  Proper notice was provided to the City.  All of us at the City wish Kristen a happy retirement and thank her for her years of service to the residents of the City of Eureka. "

Acosta wants all charges dismissed against him and alleges outrageous government conduct

 

Earlier this month, I reported local attorney Michael Acosta's Faretta motion was granted. According to his court appointed attorney, Ms. Rebecca Linkous, she only agreed to Acosta representing himself for the 995 motion. The Faretta motion granted by the court and all subsequent motions have Acosta listed as his own attorney.

Acosta's first attempt at filing the 995 was rejected due to a technicality. His second attempt at the 995 was successful. The hearing on the 995 motion is scheduled on May 19 in front of Justice Stuart Pollak. He is an Associate Justice of the California First District Court of Appeal. A motion to compel discovery was rejected due to incorrect date and time.

Patrick Payton booked on warrant for possession of child pornography

 

Patrick JamesIrvin Payton was booked into the Humboldt County jail yesterday on an arrest warrant for PC 311.11(a) possession of child pornography. Payton posted bail and is out of custody. The warrant is for a 2023 case that was filed on May 3. Arraignment is scheduled for 7/17.

In 2021, I did a post stating Kimberly Felder's case seemed to have disappeared into thin air. In June 2018, Felder was found not guilty by reason of insanity.  She pleaded no contest to attempted murder and the special allegation of inflicting great bodily injury. The victim is her daughter.

Casey Russo did not give up on Ewa Misztal and 7 years later she is getting outpatient treatment

After two years of trying and objection by the People, Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo was finally successful in getting the court order to get Ewa Misztal placed on outpatient treatment. Misztal was sent to the State Hospital. This is a 2016 case. In 2018, Misztal 

 pleaded guilty to two added counts; voluntary manslaughter as well as child endangerment and abuse.

Jesse Widmark charged with 5 counts and several special allegations and that is just one case

 

Jesse Chakchak Widmark, the second suspect in the Harris and Dolbeer shooting incident and the younger Widmark brother who has been in jail for two days is was arraigned this afternoon. There are two cases for both brothers. Certain counts apply to Jesse Widmark and others to Brandon Widmark in the attempted murder case which has a total of 13 counts. The second case is an assault case and both brothers are charged with assaulting William Baskette with a bat.

DA files motion to continue Daniel Dozier's preliminary hearing

 

Voluntary manslaughter suspect Daniel Dozier posted bail on 4/19/23. The DA has filed a motion to continue the preliminary hearing scheduled for 5/25. The motion will be heard on 5/15.

Mckinleyville man booked for possession of child pornography

Brandon Markus Allen Sampanes posted bail a few hours after being booked. Arraignment is on 6/8. Sampanes is charged with one count, PC 311.11 (a) possession of child pornography.

I have never seen more than three Times-Standard papers at the 4th Street courthouse in the years I have been going to the Courthouse. Yesterday, I noticed three days of TS papers stacked and left there all day. Today, the stack grew to 4 days of unclaimed papers. 

San Francisco man arrested on two counts of attempted murder

On May 11, 2023, at approximately 12:25 a.m., the Eureka Police Department (EPD) received a report of an argument followed by the sounds of gunshots in the 1800 block of California Street.

Jesse Widmark arrested on Ramey warrant and is in custody

Jesse Chakchak Widmark was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday on a Ramey warrant for PC 664/187(a) attempted murder , PC 273a (a) child abuse or child endangerment, PC 245(a)(1) assault with a deadly weapon, PC 211 robbery, PC 69 resisting arrest and  PC 417(c) brandishing a firearm at police. 

Jesse Widmark is is the second suspect in Harris and Dolbeer shooting incident. He was booked on a no bail status.
