The Humboldt County Crisis Negotiating Team who are responsible for saving the woman's life today in Old Town included Cal Poly Humboldt Lt. and Assistant CNT team leader Janelle Jackson, CNT Assistant team leader and HCSO Det. Julian Aguilera, EPD MIST Officer Jayme Clark, CNT negotiator Sydney Arnold and several CARE team members. Officer Clark and a CARE team member came in on their days off.

I included this in my earlier post but I want to recognize all of them in this separate post as well as EPD Commander Wayne Rabang, EPD Sgt. Raymond Nunez and every single EPD officer on scene.

Our law enforcement does not get the recognition they deserve. This is just one of many positive outcomes in the field daily. I have known many of the law enforcement members for years.

Eureka Police Department issued a press release on 7/20/26 at 12:26 p.m. which I have added to this post.

EPD Press Release:

On July 19, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to the 300 block of E Street for a report of a female in crisis who was on the roof of a building.

Upon arrival, officers located the female sitting on the edge of the roof with her legs dangling over the side. 

Officers immediately secured the area and requested additional resources.

Due to the nature and complexity of the incident, personnel from the City of Eureka's mobile crisis team (CARE), the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Crisis Negotiation Team, a Mental Health Officer (MIST) from the Community Safety Engagement Team (CSET), Humboldt Bay Fire, and City Ambulance responded to assist. 

After approximately four hours of negotiations, the female voluntarily came down from the roof. She was medically evaluated at the scene and was transported to a local medical facility for further care.
