Instead of insulting local hotel owners, those on Eureka City Council and the Mayor need to adress their being tone deaf as usual

1023 4th street  one of the problem properties that ECC ignores. I have mentioned to ECC councilmembers who listen and EPD is aware.  There is no one hanging out there now since work is being done. The house next to it another magnet of noise and other activity.

Wonder why the usual miscreants are on the bus stop by Eureka City Hall or their stops this afternoon?

Once again, Eureka Councilmember Renee Contreras-Deloach is the voice of reason and common sense and surprisingly Eureka Councilmember Mario Fernandez also voted no on the increase in TOT. The other three Eureka Councilmembers, Eureka Mayor Kim Bergel and Eureka City Manager Miles Slattery are the problem and need to go. 

Tone deaf, anti business and refuse to do anything about the problems in Eureka. 

I live in Ward 1 and cannot wait for Leslie Castellano's term to end. Other than doing what benefits her career while being on ECC and listening to her woke constituents,who like her have never built a business and live off the government dole. Whether it is grants, subsidies or some funding by goverment or renting to those living off the government, the problem in Humboldt is not enough private industry. Dope dispensaries is not the kind of business Eureka should be promoting.

There are three candidates running for Ward 1 and none of you have offered solutions or change. I live in Ward 1.

Jeff Leonard who has yet to file official paperwork for Ward 5 offers no solutions either.

Miles, Kim and the other three ECC are the typical Humboldt live off government, non profit, grant parasites who have no idea what it is to create something, build and maintain a business, make payroll and somehow eke out a profit.

Insulting the hotel owners who employ people and bring in revenue is why Eureka is dirty, subpar and the walking dead have taken over Eureka. The bus stop by Eureka City Hall is used by transients, alcoholics and mentally ill day and night screaming and disturbing people who work and live in the affordable housing you progressives claim to champion. Hotels and apartments are trashed by the same. 4th and 5th street smells like piss, shit all over the sidewalks and is dirty. 

I talk to people who visit here and come here for work and the hotel owners are losing business to Arcata and other areas in Humboldt.

I am fed up of calling Eureka Police Department just so I can get one decent night or a few hours of sleep. I am fed up of walking on 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th and being solicited for money. I am tired of sidewalks being blocked and every damn coffee shop ,restaurant being taken over by drug addicts, mentally ill and bums instead of paying customers being able to sit in peace. Clean up 4th and 5th street for residents and businesses who pay and contribute and tourists. I cannot walk a block without going through filthy smoke from the same zombies sitting on sidewalks and outside businesses.

CSET does a great job. If I could, I would fire Miles, Kim Bergel and the three ECC members, take all the money all of you are paid and give a bonus to every single person at EPD. 

Former ECC Councilmember and equally useless Humboldt County 4th District Supervisor Natalie Arroyo who has done nothing to increase health care opportunities or get doctors here as promised still got elected because no one wants to run for office in this shithole. Those at ECC and Eureka who are always jumping down anyone's throat for pointing out the reality of the zombie land dystopia created by the anti business, kumbaya crowd can start paying our bills. Dope dispensaries and grant funded non profits are not an economy. There is no money here and the few who have it are holding on it as they should.

I don't know if the jail is still releasing people late at night but if they are not going directly home, to a treatment program or shelter under supervision, then they can stay in jail until the next day.

Free phones with internet are being used by people who do not work to blast music all day and all night and comment on Facebook or online. No incentive or effort to change their lives or get off food stamps.

The City of Eureka and the County of Humboldt have allowed the area near the Courthouse, in the Courthouse, the jail and the surrounding areas to go to shit; literally. You cannot house people if all the money is going to bureaucrats and unneccessary expenses. There are way too many treatment centers and safe and sober houses in downtown Eureka. Is that what the tourists are going to pay extra TOT for?

If you don't want to be criticized, start listening. Raising the tax isn't the solution. Look at your spending and come up with revenue ideas that do not involve squeezing water out of a rock.

Restaurants and businesses sit empty because of City of Eureka ridiculous requirements. What we need on Eureka City Council, for a Mayor and a City Manager is people who are business oriented and advocate for people who contribute and pay taxes.

With the exception of a few quality restaurants, there is no decent food, culture or quality of life in Eureka. The natural beauty this area offers is not in Eureka. 

11:52 a.m.: I am in Old Town at one of the popular eateries and just heard a couple call out Eureka Mayor Kim Bergel and those on the Council about the increase in TOT and how it will negatively impact their decision to come to Eureka. The TOT debacle will affect other businesses and people who work one or more jobs to pay bills.
