Joanna Carroll Miranda placed on probation for embezzlment from City of Fortuna
Joanna Carroll Miranda was booked and released yesterday at midnight for PC 503, embezzlment, for time served. She was placed on probation. Bail was $25,000 and she posted bond.

CHP arrests three for human trafficking and child endangerment
On August 7, 2021, at 3:10 pm, a California Highway Patrol Sergeant and Officer assigned to the Laytonville Resident Post were on patrol in the area of US-101, south of Laytonville, when they stopped for multiple subjects standing outside a 2003 Honda Accord with its hazard lights activated.

After one petition for hearing was denied, Cory Fisher files another request
Today, there was a review for petition filed on behalf of former Humboldt County Correctional Deputy and convicted molestor Cory Fisher to be considered by the California Supreme Court.
On July 12, petition for rehearing was denied in his appeal by the First Apellate District.

Besides his usual charge of being drunk, JD Pittman arrested for more serious charges this time
It was only a matter of time before JD Pittman was arrested. He graduated from being the most arrested for drunk in public and added assault, battery and petty theft to his usual charge of staggering around drunk, being noisy, yelling and trespassing.
Before this new arrest, he had 66 cases in the Humboldt Superior Court system with two open cases from 2020.

No one besides jurors, court staff and attorneys allowed to be in court for jury trials
Effective Monday, August 9, 2021, in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and its variants, jurors will be socially distanced in the spectator section of the courtroom for jury trials.
With this operational change, it will not be possible for spectators to be present in the courtrooms for jury trials. Public access to jury trials will be via YouTube with jury trial links posted on the Court’s website at https://www.humboldt.courts.ca.gov/.
There are no operational changes to other courtrooms/court proceedings at this time.
Brian Leiteritz case resolves before trial
Judge John Feeney said at the last case that the Brian Leiteritz case should resolve before trial and it did on August 5. Sentencing is on September 28.
Judge Feeney indicated he would place Leiteritz on probation.
BOS and CAO office closed after Rex Bohn announces he tested positive for COVID
Following First District Supervisor Rex Bohn's Facebook announcement that he has tested positive for COVID 19, the Board of Supervisors and CAO's office is closed.

Update: Motion to continue until January 2022 denied by Judge Cockrum. Trial date reset for October 4, 2021. Mr. Ken Bareilles is still Christie's attorney. Motion for new trial, if it is not withdrawn, will be heard on the same day as trial confirmation on September 20.
