Update: Motion to continue until January 2022 denied by Judge Cockrum. Trial date reset for October 4, 2021. Mr. Ken Bareilles is still Christie's attorney. Motion for new trial, if it is not withdrawn, will be heard on the same day as trial confirmation on September 20.
Ray Christie fired one of his attorneys, John Cogorno, who withdrew from the case on August 4.
Christie is being retried on four felonies and that trial is currently scheduled for August 9.
Today, Christie's case is on trial assignment. Mr. Ken Bareilles, his other attorney had not appeared on the case for a while. He was in court on Wednesday with Christie.
At the last hearing, Mr. Bareilles indicated he would not be available for the jury trial until next year. Mr. Cogorno had previously filed a motion for new trial. A motion in limine is scheduled for August 9.
Judge Christopher Wilson told Christie at the last hearing he had until August 6 to find a new lawyer who could proceed within a reasonable time frame or Mr. Bareilles had to be ready to proceed.
As of 12:59 p.m. yesterday, there was no substitution of attorney or motion to continue filed.
Deputy District Attorneys Steven Steward and David Moutrie are the prosecutors for the case.
