Kevin William Wesley Dikes was arraigned this afternoon. He got a bit of break this afternoon when bail was set at $915,000 instead of a million. That bail amount could change next week.
Conflict Counsel's office was appointed to represent him. Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps did not ask for supervised release but requested a bail hearing which is scheduled for August 24.
At that hearing, bail can be increased or decreased said Judge Christopher Wilson. Count 1 is a life offense and according to schedule, that bail is $750,000. Counts 2 and 3 add an additional 16 years to a potential sentence.
Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm was present at arraignment. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 1.
Dikes was arrested on August 19 by Det. Sgt. Chris Ortega of the Arcata Police Department and booked into the Humboldt County jail on two charges of PC 288 (a) lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and one charge of PC 207(a), kidnapping.
The complaint filed by the DA charges him with PC 209 (b) (1) kidnapping with intent to commit another crime and two counts of PC 288 (a).
Bail at booking is one million and he is still in custody. Typically with such cases, bail can be increased at arraignment. DA just received the law enforcement report.
Dikes owns a business in Arcata. He has one previous case in the system for a traffic ordinance. Dikes plead guilty and has a conviction in that case.
8/24: Bail remained at $915,000. I checked on 8/28/21 and Dikes was still in custody.
