As the Dixie Fire continues to grow, Lassen Community College in Susanville evacuated 106 students and staff to Humboldt State University.
They arrived by bus early Wednesday morning and are staying in residence halls, separate from HSU students, until conditions improve in Susanville. HSU is providing them with supplies and, in coordination with the local Red Cross, health and wellbeing services and other support during their stay. The LCC students include those who arrived last week and had left HSU on Saturday.
Most evacuees are vaccinated, though out of an abundance of caution they were tested for COVID-19 immediately upon arrival. Those who are unvaccinated must be tested weekly. Everyone will be expected to follow all campus health and safety protocols, including wearing masks on campus and doing daily wellness self-checks. HSU has isolation beds set aside to handle any positive cases.
This is a difficult time for the LCC community and we ask HSU students, staff, and faculty to please keep them, their loved ones, and all the communities that have been affected by wildfires throughout the region in your thoughts.
If you are traveling in an affected area, please be cautious and stay updated on current conditions. In particular, be aware of official announcements such as road closures and changing traffic conditions
