Ray Christie buys his namesake and Supervisor Bohn cracks a joke

Ray Christie bought three dairy heifers and other animals at the Humboldt County Fair. He has done this for years. I was informed by sources that this included Super Champion chickens, turkeys and pigs, including the FFA pig named Christie raised by Jack Honsal.

Will Sheriff Billy Honsal keep the money this year or "donate" it like he did last year. That "donation" was done only after my post was published last year about Ray Christie buying the pig Jack Honsal raised.

I called Ray Christie and he confirmed that he bought his namesake.

Usually the animals bought are sent to slaughter and the meat is used or donated by the owners of the animal to organizations.

Ray Christie said he is not sending the animals to slaughter but raising them as pets. Last year, he wanted to give some of the animals back to the kids who raised them but was told he could not due to COVID restrictions.  Ray Christie said he buys these animals to support the kids and FFA and 4H.

Some other sources told me they heard First District Supervisor Rex Bohn thank Ray Christie for supporting the kids. And someone overheard  Supervisor Bohn jokingly tell Ray Christie that he should call "Billy" as a character witness for his jury trial.

Ray Christie had no comment about Supervisor Bohn's comments except to say that Jack Honsal thanked him. "Good kid and great manners."
