Before he can get another private attorney, there needs to be a Marsden hearing

Confirmation of counsel and setting of sentencing was scheduled for convicted murderer Brandon Watson this morning. It was continued to August 17. A Marsden hearing is scheduled for the same day.

On August 2, Ms. Andrea Sullivan, Watson's attorney, told Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter that a motion for a new trial will not be filed by her. She asked that another attorney be appointed to evaluate Watson's claim of ineffective counsel.

Today, Mr. Zach Curtis was available for appointment. Judge Lawrence Killoran said before he appointed private counsel, there needed to be a Marsden hearing.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy DA Jane Mackie appeared for him today.
