Case against US Forest Service employee dismissed and protective order terminated

Today, instead of his preliminary hearing, the case against U.S. Forest Service employee Matthew Salmon was dismissed by the People. The protective order issued was terminated.

Salmon should thank the Eureka Police Department.

EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell said, "As a result of the complete investigation and the totality of evidence, it was determined that the female’s wounds were consistent with being self-inflicted.  The Eureka Police Department forwarded these findings to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office and the case against Matthew Salmon was dismissed."

Arrests are made, charges are filed and investigation continues beyond the initial arrest and sometimes up to trial. In Salmon's case, charges were dismissed today due to a thorough investigation by EPD. In 99.9 % of the cases, the arrests result in charges which end in a resolution, plea or conviction.

Salmon's arrest and filing of charges was news. So is the dismissal. And both were reported on the blog as the case made it way through the legal system. News with verification and information from law enforcement and court records.

Information from a biased party is not how it works. A concept one of Salmon's co-worker did not grasp. When you are used to selective coverage and small rural county "media" not following every case by the same standards and only reporting what is convenient to certain people and financially beneficial to these outlets; you get people who think they dictate what is "news" or know what is news.

Times Standard never reported on the arrest and charges but the dismissal was news? How did they find out and conveniently cover the dismissal? 🤔 More whack a mole court coverage by TS.
