What a terrible event to have gone through…. Not only the arrest, but the actual experience.

An even bigger surprise is finding out that the EXTREMELY biased anonymous email was from a coworker. We have some bad eggs, but that was nothing short of petty vindictive SHIT.

I was (and am) disappointed it was even published.

Yesterday, I posted that instead of his preliminary hearing, the case against U.S. Forest Service employee Matthew Salmon was dismissed by the People. The protective order issued was terminated.

I had mentioned one of Salmon co-workers previously who had written to me about his arrest. 

Today, I heard from another co-worker. One Salmon should be proud to work with and someone who understands news and reporting in a small County.

This co-worker as well as several other people in the last two days are the majority. The trolls are not.

It does not matter where I go in this County, I hear, "Hi John", "Are you John Chiv?"

Today, I met someone in the courthouse who had emailed me earlier about a smash and grab suspect Nathan Ruptak.  This is a HCSO press release I posted this Tuesday. Others ran the same press release. This is a victim is one of Ruptak's 43 cases. He reached out to me about Ruptak.

I could have posted some updates earlier. I was in the middle of checking e court and had other news but when people write to you, call you by your first name, chose you; the least you can do is give them a few minutes of your time.

I have reported local news in Philadelphia, Atlanta and done mainstream journalism before I came to Humboldt. Reporting is about relationships, cultivating leads, lnowing your community and trust. 

I dis not kow tow to entrenched systems, abuse of power then; I do not now. The difference is I had a steady paycheck then; I don't know. I still put in the same effort.
