Sentencing for convicted felon in Carlson Park incident continued for a week

Convicted felon Joshua Lee Harris was scheduled to be sentenced today. Last month a jury convicted him of 245(a)(2) assault with a firearm and special allegation PC 12022.5 (a)  personal use of a firearm in the commission of the crime. The jury found him guilty on both charges.

Sentencing was continued to 1/26. People'ss request for remand denied and defense motion to continue granted by Judge Kaleb Cockrum.

Harris was arrested after an incident near Carlson Park in Arcata on June 3, 2022. Harris got into an argument with another male and drew a .22-caliber revolver, shot twice at the victim (without hitting him), and fled the scene.

Deputy District Attorneys Roger Rees and Trent Timm prosecuted the case. Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps represented Harris.
