For the second court date in a row, Michael Acosta doesn't show up for convicted human trafficker's case

Setting of preliminary hearing and status of two motions filed by the District Attorney was rescheduled for April 22. It was continued again to April 28.

One motion is to disqualify convicted human trafficker David Anderson's attorney, Mr. Michael Acosta. The other motion is to submit sealed documents.

Mr. Acosta was not present on March 24 and he was not present, again, this morning. Judge Lawrence Killoran said he was not present in court or via video conferencing.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer told Judge Lawrence Killoran, " I find it concerning that for the second court date in a row, Mr. Anderson's attorney is not here in court. I am sure Mr. Anderson is also concerned. Mr. Anderson needs someone appointed and quickly. We have to do something."

Both Ms. Schaffer and the court clerk are going to attempt to reach Mr. Acosta.

"If Mr. Acosta fails to appear at the next court date, we can take up the matter," said Judge Killoran.

Anderson who had been listening to this entire exchange via video in the jail conferencing room said, " My attorney didn't show up?"

"My understanding is that he appeared via video chat for other clients."

Anderson is correct. I have seen Mr. Acosta appear for other clients. The court, the DA have reached out to Mr. Acosta. Anderson, like other clients, can call his attorney or have his family members call Mr. Acosta. He can also ask for another attorney to be appointed by the Court. Like the last hearing, Anderson is expecting someone else to deal with an attorney retained by him/his family.
