Don't count on getting that first unemployment check as quickly as two to three weeks

The number of Americans filing for unemployment is breaking records. Systems crashing, busy phone lines and other problems filing claims are adding to the delay in people filing benefits and getting paid.

Expanded benefits were extended to freelance workers, the self-employed, and gig workers as a part of a program called Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). The Department of Labor needs to issue guidelines and regulations to states.  Then states have update their processes and upgrade their websites. The PUA benefits will require proof.
