Being proactive allowed one business to be prepared for the shelter in place order and continue serving customers

Robert Slater of Advanced Cellular and Repair LLC reached out to local elected officials two days before Humboldt County issued the shelter in place order.

Slater wanted to know if his business qualified as an essential business. He saw First District Supervisor Rex Bohn outside his store. Supervisor Bohn referred him to Mendocino County's order and said Humboldt's order would be similar.  "He referred me to section 9 for review," said Slater. That was a starting point to see if Slater had further questions.

Then Slater reached out to Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass. "She was extremely helpful. She had lots of answers for all my questions."

Being pro active allowed Slater to prepare financially for his business, plan his budget and employee hours as  well as take appropriate safeguards to protect customers. "Pre planning gave us the opportunity to increase inventory levels to meet the needs of the community. We anticipated that product would become difficult to get due to other parts of the Country. "

Besides wearing gloves and social distancing,"we have 2 UV sterilizers we put phones into as customers drop off and pick up. We spray each device with rubbing alcohol before and after repair. We clean counters and door handles every hour to ensure they are virus free. We have rubbing alcohol spray for any customer that wants it. We put a gate at the counter to ensure customers do not enter the back of the store. We Sterilize the pens between customers. "

"All services are open. We have many customers that rely on us for for prepaid phone pins so that  phone maintains service."

"Phones and computers are an important communication tool during the COVID-19 pandemic and we wanted to make sure we were prepared for our customers and community.
