Courtroom congestion leads to yet another rescheduling of Edward Pena's preliminary hearing

Preliminary hearing was scheduled today for Edward Pena. After a civilian witness and a HCSO deputy "who had been up since 7:45 a.m. yesterday" waited for hours, it was rescheduled for February 24.

With one criminal courtroom down because Judge Christopher Wilson is out sick, busy court calendars and Courtroom 5's calendars being reshuffled, Pena's case was finally called and assigned around 11:15.

The preliminary hearing would have gone into the afternoon and with two Deputy Public Defenders out sick, no one could cover Pena's attorney cases. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Pena's attorney.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for the case.

Pena's complaint has allegations from three female victims and includes charges of a DUI, fleeing the scene and resisting a peace officer.
