Maria Cuevas was convicted of vehicular manslaughter.
On 9/30/25, her restitution hearing was continued to 10/2/25 because it should have been set in front of a Visiting Judge.
Once again today's hearing was continued by Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge to 10/31/25. There were no appearances by people or defense. Cuevas is in prison. Judge Neel ordered court staff to prepare order to produce Cuevas by Zoom for the next court hearing and, court will arrange for a Visiting Judge. After proceedings had concluded, Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Ian Harris showed up and was told of the next court date. Ms. Andrea Sullivan is not in this County; did she even know about today's hearing?
This isn't the first time, there has been an uneccesary court hearing or continuance in Humboldt and it will not be the last time. Hearings get calendared before judges who are disqualified; judges who are recused; only to be continued. Every day, there are multiple useless continuances in Humboldt Superior Court like this and a waste of time for me to do follow up. Check the March 10 post where updates to her civil cases are being added.
