Ralph Leroy Menzies is an convicted murderer currently on death row in Utah for the 1986 murder of Maurine Hunsaker, a gas station attendant whom he kidnapped before slitting her throat. Menzies was convicted of the murder and sentenced to death on March 23, 1988. His September 5, 2025 execution by firing squad was stayed after a Utah Supreme Court ruling for a competency evaluation. Menzies has dementia. The state did not oppose defense request for a new MRI. Competency hearing had been scheduled for December 9 to 12.
