Saw a name I recognized from a 2016 post on the Courtroom 4 calendar this afternoon. Errica Stevens was arrested in 2016 for attempted homicide after attacking a Walgreen's employee with a hammer.

In 2018, Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Christopher Wilson found that Stevens was "not sane at the time of offense." She was committed to the State Hospital.
Today, that commitment was extended for another two years after Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Presiding Judge Timothy Canning granted the people's petition. Judge Canning found that "substantial danger and harm to the community" if Stevens was released. Once again, Judge Canning made a ruling that protects the public from a dangerous individual.
Humboldt County Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees handled the jury trial today for the DA's office to extend Stevens' commitment at State Hospital. Humboldt Deputy Public Defender Ryan McClurg appeared on the case for his office and Stevens.
