Convicted sexual batterer and now sex offender Mervin George III resolves case before jury trial

A week before his jury trial was scheduled to start, Mervin Lewis George III resolved his case this morning at trial confirmation. I saw him outside court. George was charged with one misdemeanor count of PC 243.4 (e) (1) sexual battery.

This was not stated in court but I suspect part of the reason for the plea is that in a small community such as Hoopa and a county such as Humboldt, who the victim is would further inflame already tense relationships.

He entered a no contest plea to that charge, was placed on 1 year probation and has to register as a sex offender. George was ordered to take medication as prescribed by physician. George was served with a criminal protective order.

George's attorney is Mr. Michael Robinson. Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor on the case. Retired Judge Marilyn Miles took the plea and said there will be no additional time. Criminal protective order reviewed. There is a review hearing on 12/8/25 regarding the 50 hours of community service work.

He has three prior convictions and one dismissal.
