POP busts convicted felon with meth and firearms

On March 9, 2021, Detectives with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP) responded to a residence at the 1800 block of Circle Drive in Eureka to serve a search warrant after receiving information that 31-year-old Jared Nelson of Eureka was selling narcotics and was in possession of firearms.

Nelson is a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition.  Nelson and two other occupants were detained inside of the residence.  During the search, detectives located a loaded .22 caliber rifle and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.  The rifle was found to have been reported stolen from the Willits area in 1995.  An additional two loaded pistols and methamphetamine were located in the elderly home owner’s room.

Nelson was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

As this investigation progresses, several additional felony charges are anticipated to be forwarded with the case to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office against Nelson and the elderly home owner
