I have known Kyla Nored (Tripodi) since she worked in the "right circles" for over a decade. She, like many locals, used her Humboldt connections and those "right cliques" to get experience before joining daddy's business.
She wasn't happy with my recent court coverage about a case in which her dad was mentioned. There was no reference to her in that post. There was nothing negative I wrote about Charlie Tripodi. So what's your problem Kyla? You couldn't pick up the phone and call me yourself or email me? Was it because I did nothing wrong except report facts stated in court about a case? Was it because you wanted no documentation of trying to intimidate me for doing my job?
Kyla, you and anyone else could always send me information to add to any post. That is what normal, decent people who understand news and reporting do.
I am sure Kyla isn't the only one in the last 24 hours in Humboldt less than thrilled with me reporting facts or news. Some of you are used to doing whatever you like with no consequences. Some of you are used to "convenient reporting."
There are many people and businesses in Humboldt. Not everyone ends up in the headlines or my blog. There are a few who think they are entitled to target and attack me for doing my job.
If you have nothing to hide, you should not be fearful. Maybe the Tripodis and several others in Humboldt should make better choices in their professional and personal lives. Instead, they misdirect their anger and try and bully independent reporting.
Does the Land Man still advertise in Lost Coast Outpost or other local media? I am sure you prefer media outlets that cherry pick what they cover. I don't. News is news and there were several well known names in that post. I don't superficially cover court cases and news and ignore covering anyone who is "well off" in Humboldt.
Astute locals have commented that I cover everyone regardless of who they are. Why do people care about what I write? Maybe it is because you know that people who matter read this blog.
Why do people think they can ask me to take posts down? Why do people have no problem with my reporting until it involves them? Do you ask other media to take down posts? Why not?
The same people have no problem feeding on the gossip and fluff posts that permeate certain other local "media outlets." The same people advertise on sites with racist, misogynist and garbage comments. Things in the comments section on those sites only improved slightly after years of my calling out and exposing the hypocrisy of those "media outlets" and those who support them.
The same people have no problem if the news is about someone other than them and their clique.
Kyla, this blog does not look the other way because of who you are. I built my business and blog on hard work, despite petty people like you, Glenn Goldan and others who go behind my back to acquaintances and associates.
I don't appreciate being asked on behalf of anyone to "take my post down as a personal favor." I am not going to take my blog post about anyone down because facts and reporting are "inconvenient" to someone.
That is intimidation and trying to silence me and my reporting. It has been done constantly since I started this blog.
There are many loyal, decent and good people in Humboldt. There are also many back stabbing, petty, cowards who attack me and others for standing up for themselves and speaking truth.
It is not easy to do what I do. I have lost a lot while doing a thankless job . I have stood up for many people, helped many people, taken risks to have your voice heard. I have seen who stands with me and appreciates me and who stays loyal, no matter what.
Many in this town go after people and their livelihood with no reason at all. There is no outrage; no justice when it is warranted.
No matter how powerful and rich you are; there is always someone more rich and powerful than you.
