On March 18, 2021, at about 9:10 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the intersection of Pine and West Hawthorne Streets for the report of a hit and run vehicle vs pedestrian collision.
Based on surveillance from a nearby residence, the driver was traveling west on West Hawthorne Street and made a left turn on to Pine Street when the driver struck the 44-year-old female pedestrian in the roadway with the vehicle. The driver briefly stopped and then continued south on Pine Street without getting out to check on the pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered minor to moderate injuries as a result of the collision.
Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance responded and provided emergency medical care and transportation to the hospital. At this time, the driver has not made any attempts to report the collision. It appears the suspect vehicle is a light-colored small SUV, possibly a Hyundai.
The Eureka Police Department asks that anyone with information on the identity of the driver or involved vehicle, contact Detective Eckert at (707) 441-4142.
This is the sixth hit and run vehicle vs pedestrian collision to occur in Eureka in the last 12 months. Fortunately, the community has greatly assisted in these investigations by providing surveillance from residential and commercial security cameras.
