"It is unlikely the courts will be open by May 11"

Trial confirmation was scheduled on April 21 for former Humboldt County Building and Planning Department employee Patrick McTigue. Jury trial scheduled for May 11 was vacated.

In addition to defense requesting a continuance and asking that dates be reset, Judge Kaleb Cockrum said, " It is unlikely the courts will be open by May 11."

Deputy District Attorney Adrian Kamada was the prosecutor for the case. Deputy DA Steven Steward has taken over the case. He did not object to the continuance. Mr. Steward will be reaching out to the People's witnesses.

Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo is representing McTigue. He took the case over from Mr. Neal Sanders in January when McTigue claimed he was indigent and needed a Public Defender.

"Investigation and my ability to meet with Mr. McTigue have been affected because of the COVID 19 situation."

Mr. Russo appeared 977 for McTigue today but for trial confirmation on June 29 and jury trial on July 13, McTigue was ordered to be present, if neccessary by phone.

There was stipulation that any subpoenaed records be turned over to the DA.
