Starting September, David Nims will no longer be at Janssen Malloy but a Deputy Public Defender. Mr. Nims was previously a Deputy District Attorney in Humboldt.
Mr. Nims is not the first Deputy DA to go over to the PD's office but he is the first from a well-known, local private law firm. Mr. Nims is the second former Himboldt Deputy DA who went into private practice and then the PD's office.
People read my blog all over California and other parts of the U.S
"I have to admit. Every place elsewhere in this state lawyers are almost embarrassed to work for the Public Defender. In Humbold, three of them are on a bench of seven. One almost won in this last Judge race. Janssen is a well respected firm. In LA, this would never ever happen. Private practice of law is lucrative in LA and most other places. In Humboldt, goverment jobs are the only lucrative ones. David Nims clerked for them but got his first lawyer job as a Deputy District Attorney. This happens no place else!"
This message above sums up my own observations and thoughts about the lure of the Humboldt Public Defender's office as well as the sentiments from a few others I received about this post. One observation I want to add is that many Humboldt Public Defenders are friends and/or are connected to Paul Gallegos or Gregory Elvine-Kreis.
Don't make assumptions about who this is message is from because there are many lawyers and readers I have in Southern California due to my court coverage.
