Is the City of Eureka waiting for another incident like the Little Eagle Moon one to address issues in this area?

It started out a week ago with one camper. Now it has grown to an average of two, three different cars in less than 24 hours.

This camper has been an issue for months in this area when it is around. Eureka Police Department has responded several times in this area due to complaints about this camper van.

I have walked by this camper for several months at different times and the camper is always there in the exact same spot. Not only do the dogs bark constantly and are never seen but different cars pull up all day and night and leave within minutes. The mouthy guy yells at the dogs. Are they being walked or fed?

There is yelling, fighting and it is worse when that green car and green truck are around. That red haired woman has been asked to leave private property a few times. When she is around, I have been told and I have also seen different cars pull up see her get in, get out and the cars leave within a few minutes. Late at night, I was told they get bolder and louder. This is feedback from residents in the area, visiting tourists and times I have walked by.

I contacted EPD Captain Brian Stephens yesterday  about these ongoing issues.  He asked me for the location. The camper van is still there. Residents and nearby businesses are frustrated. I asked Captain Stephens is there anything EPD can do besides check on it?

EPD used to patrol this area. I haven't seen EPD lately in this area or at Target.  I get they are short staffed. I wouldn't want to work for a City Council who never has my back. Tons of experienced EPD officers have moved out of the area or gone to work for another law enforcement agency.

This isn't an issue EPD should be handling. This is a problem created by the City of Eureka, this clueless City Council and it is their responsibility to fix it. EPD has their hands full with crime in Eureka.

This isn't about someone sleeping and being respectful. This camper van and their wannabe homies put out their trash and junk all over the sidewalk. They have taken over the area and sidewalk yelling, screaming and fighting throughout the day. Different cars pull up and dart in and out of traffic, leaving their car doors open which is a hazard to others driving by on a busy street. What "business"  is being conducted for the two to three minutes every day with characters I recognize from all over town?

The residents, the businesses, people walking to Target and nearby businesses and restaurants have rights too. The public needs to use the sidewalk and to feel safe and not be hassled. The guests at nearby hotels deserve to sleep and have peace and quiet. The City of Eureka should not collect one penny of TOT tax if they don't bother to create a welcoming environment for tourists or businesses visiting the area.

This camper has made the rounds on 2nd Street, 3rd Street, 5th Street. The excuse that the guy states about needing to fix it before he can move it does not work after almost two years of the same lame bs used by him and every other dilapidated vehicle parked in Eureka for years.

It is people like him that make it harder for others on the street because all over Eureka these chronic troublemakers are multiplying each year. They stay because they are tolerated and enabled by people who are not affected by their presence. They litter, they trash, they are belligerent and they draw more unsavoury characters to the area. They ruin it for those who just want a safe space to park their car, sleep and get a bit of a break.

The Eureka City Council and administration was aware of the issues at Royal Inn for years and looked the other way. They had calls about the encampment near the Sizzler which they ignored. Then a fire started and Humboldt Bay Fire and others resources wasted because the City of Eureka chose to ignore and take preventive action.

The Eureka City  Council and City administration shouldn't bother with ordinances or laws they don't want enforced. Is the City of Eureka waiting for another incident like the one with Little Eagle Moon to address safety issues in this area? There are chronic spots in Eureka where crimes, collisions, nuisances occur over and over again for a reason.

Instead of meaningless press releases and making EPD clean up the streets, the Eureka City Council and City administration needs to start listening and working for law abiding citizens, which includes the homeless, and make it clear to the chronic troublemakers that their issues will not be tolerated and there will be consequences.

Natalie Arroyo will do nothing to tackle problems in the 4th District as as a Supervisor. She has done nothing while she has been on the Eureka City Council to address issues in Eureka which would actually improve business and quality of life for productive residents. Under this Eureka City  Council, the number of bums who lounge around all day trashing Eureka streets has grown. Out goes one useless 4th District Supervisor to be replaced by another do nothing career politician.

Instead of wasting thousands on relocating dolos, the Eureka City Council  and administration should put that money towards cleaning up the city streets and making them safe for residents and local businesses they are taxing out of existence.

Money to move dolos could be used to house people who could be working full time or have consistent jobs if they had stable, affordable housing. There are people working jobs and sleeping on the streets. There is money which could be used for better purposes if we had a City Council that cared about the businesses and individuals who invest and care about the community.

I could write about another incident involving a man from the trailer park, a U haul but why bother. The City of Eureka and EPD have chosen to ignore the situation. The community feels unheard and disenfranchised but that is par for the course in Humboldt.

The red haired lady and the two most frequent cars that cruise and park at this spot frequently.
